Dunkin' Gives Back

On April 18th, 24 Dunkin’ employees from franchises across the Twin Cities joined forces at Second Harvest Heartland to help those fighting hunger in 59 counties across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Never heard of SHH? They’re an incredible food bank based in Brooklyn Park, MN who services 1,100 regional hunger relief programs. They run 3 shifts a day and are reliant on volunteers to come in and package food into more manageable sized parcels to get out to people in need.

During our time at Second Harvest Heartland, we spent the majority of the time packaging potatoes from large scale distributor pallets to family sized bags to make sure that the distribution of food continues smoothly. Everyone had their own role - picking, packing, bagging, or transporting! Don’t worry - no potato goes to waste. Unsatisfactory produce or potatoes accidentally dropped (there were a few!) go to local farms to be used for animal feed.

For two hours, we were lucky enough to take time out of our restaurants and gain a new perspective on the food that we were packing, the food that we eat, and the food that we serve. Approximately 400,000 Minnesotans are facing hunger at any given time, and we are so grateful to SHH for having us to work towards their goal of Making Hunger History. Check out some of our stats below!

21,730 pounds of potatoes packed

324 meals packed per person

18,835 meals packed total

Thank you to Dunkin’ and Second Harvest Heartland for the opportunity to serve our community, both with our time and moitarily. Looking to learn more about SHH? Check out their website!
